What not to talk about on a first date!

first date tipsLots of single DatingAgency.com Members have first date questions that they would like answered which is why we have put together this article.

We’ve advised in the past what to say on a first date, but today we talk about what not to say!

There are so many topics of conversation to talk about with a date, and getting to know that new person can be really enjoyable. You can ask them all sorts of things, such as what hobbies they have, where they work, what they like to do at the weekends, what their favourite music is…

But, sometimes the conversation can dry up a little and things can take a desperate turn for the worse. We advise that, whatever you do, don’t try to break the silence by talking about any of the following:

Other dates you’ve been on
Hearing this is particularly distressing for women, and most men are not thrilled hearing about other dates women have been on either. All attention must be focussed on your date, and even if you are talking about a past bad date, we think it’s best left until you know the person better.

Political and religious beliefs
You will see on DatingAgency.com that you can search for other singles using religious beliefs as a search term. If you don’t know your date’s views it’s best not to ask unless they freely tell you. We’ve been told by some of our female Members that when looking for first date tips for women it is advised that when it comes to political views, this can be a touchy subject best left alone too.

Past relationships
Dwelling on your past is not attractive, neither is singing the praises of an ex. Save the talk about past relationships for a time when you know your date better and they ask you about it, rather than bringing it up freely.

Medical conditions or health problems
Unless you have an obvious illness or injury, talking about health problems and ailments really is best left to the doctor’s surgery.

Sex
When our single Members tell us their first date tips for men we’ve heard that one of women’s main gripes is when men bring up the talk of sex too soon. Most women want to be wooed and treated with respect, and talking freely about sex is a big turn off. Save the fun stuff for later in the relationship when you are both ready for taking it to the next level.

You, you and you
You may find talking about yourself is a great way to pass the time on a date if the conversation is a little dry. If you are trying to impress your first date, it is advised that you listen to your date when they are speaking, ask related questions and answer their questions in a balanced way. If you are babbling on about yourself all night, you can guarantee, if you are lucky enough to see the person again, that you will find it hard to find things to talk about on your second date. Hold some things about yourself back so your date is left wanting to see you again.

We hope these tips help you when preparing for your first date. If you have your own, why not comment below, we’d love to hear from you.
