The guy gets the girl, the girl gets the gifts

You may have seen in the news or on the television recently, that women dating men for their money is becoming increasingly popular and is rightly or wrongly rapidly gaining momentum as an accepted part of today’s society.

‘Sugar Daddy’ is a well-known term that represents a wealthy older man who gives a woman lavish or monetary gifts in exchange for companionship and/or sexual favours.

Recently launched in to the world wide web is an internet dating site which aims to link rich men with young women. A two way partnership if you like. The male gets a good looking, young whipper snapper on his arm or in his bed, and the female gets lavished with gifts and money to pay her bills.

The Seeking Arrangement website has 80,000 UK Members and boasts 10 women for each man. It apparently matches ‘financially-challenged’ young women with men who treat them by buying them presents.

According to the site’s founder Brandon Wade, “40% of the women on the site are students… followed closely by single mothers … mostly based in London.”
Wade also said “If it’s exploitative then the exploitation is mutual.

The Sugar Daddies, mostly in their early 40s, are bankers, entrepreneurs, and chief executives with an average income of £170,000pa.

We noticed that the launch of the website coincides with a Channel 4 documentary called ‘Sex, Lies and Rinsing Guys’, which further exposes this new ‘trend’.

The documentary showed a small group of women who trawl the internet and local bars for rich looking men. They choose their prey and use their feminine ‘charms’ to get gifts and money from them.

What was interesting about this practice was the fact they claim to never give sex in return – just a bit of hand-holding and companionship. Most men were happy with this. Some men were just lonely, and craved some attention from the ‘Rinsers’ – be it a quick Skype chat or 45 minute ‘long’ dinner date in return for a Cartier watch or a pair of Manolo’s.

Some of the women who receive these gifts go on to research the prices and sell the items on, which means that they can pay their monthly bills. For some, ‘Rinsing’ had become their full time job.

One of the ‘Rinsers’ quoted “What’s the point in scrimping and saving all your life when a muppet down the road is going to pay you £1000 a month to live like a princess.

We are wondering what the rise of websites and pastimes like this are really doing for society? Is it a two-way process – the man gets the girl, the girl gets the gifts, and everyone lives happily ever after?

What do you think? We’d love your opinions, and we’d especially love to hear from a Sugar Daddy or a Sugar Baby!

  1. I guess it’s a moral standard of a girl; whether to date with somebody for money or not. But I think they won’t be happy because love doesn’t overcome lie.
