I don't drink very much so find the thought of someone having to get drunk to meet or converse with me a bit insulting, no there wouldn't be a second date

I suppose I could understand someone needing a little dutch courage. It can be rather nerve wracking meeting someone for the first time, even if you have been emailing/texting etc regularly.

I wouldn't walk out on a date if they got drunk, they just wouldn't get another one! Personally, I prefer to keep my wits about me on a first date and be able to make a quick getaway at the end if I had to...believe me I had to, once!

Hi there,

I would certainly drive on a first date and have the ONE glass of wine (for Dutch courage) and if my date got slaughtered I would make my excuses and leave ... although I HAVE been on a first date where the guy not only got slaughtered but he had the most disgusting table manners and slobbered and spat and then (when I was trying to have a sensible conversation) told me EXACTLY why women liked riding horses (you REALLY don't want to know!) Being polite I kept the conversation going until I was able to leave whereupon he said "I guess you don't want to see me again". CORRECT, MR. First date impressions are very important 'cos based on what you see/hear, you will/will not want to see the guy again!!!

Don't worry Kieth, I'll try and balance it out a bit by admitting I've also gotten a *little* drunk on a first date (twice). By *little* I mean not drinking-out-the-gutter drunk, but just merry.

However, there was a third time when I was driving and my date was slugging back the chardonnay like grapes had become extinct, then she threw up on my shoes after picking a fight with someone. Never saw her again, didn't even walk her to the taxi rank!

Both the other times, we were both a *little* drunk so it was fine heh. I wouldn't imagine it would happen often that one person slowly got drunk while the other didn't all night, as most people I imagine would refrain from drinking if their date was on the OJ for whatever reason. And someone turning up drunk just shows some fairly major issues.

It's all too easily done, we've all had those butterflies, and alcohol does make it easier to relax and open up (specially us shy people!)

Oh dear, I bet there's a few hypocrites here. You're only kidding yourself ultimately.

I've certainly had a few on a date before, but then, so have they. I really don't know why people think it makes them remotely superior to pretend they don't drink when I've yet to meet anyone, male or female who not only drinks but can knock 'em back like a chav when the mood hits - including me.

Personally I can't stand holier than thou people who profess to only drinking 'occasionally' whilst looking rather superior. It's always indicated someone who generally doesn't like drinking or who, for example, knows nothing about wine. The poor individual probably hasn't made it past house wine in pubs, which is probably *why* they don't like drinking.

Most profiles say 'occasional' drinkers, but of those 'occasional' drinkers I've met, they've all turned out to be fibbing. Doesn't bother me, I knew they were fibbing anyway - most people do about this. It's like putting on a photo that shows you in your good light - or so you think. It's how you'd *like* to be perceived, not how you necessarily are.

I met a chap a while back and in the evening (after a day out) he'd had as much to drink as me, yet the next time we met he steadfastly refused to have anything to drink which I actually thought was a bit sad as he was clearly trying to make a point. I opened a bottle anyway and offered him some more juice... haha. He was being an incredible drip about having been drunk the week before and how he still felt a 'bit poorly' a week on. Yet he hadn't had a problem drinking the week before which he was too pompous to realise indicated a TOLERANCE which you only get from REGULAR drinking.

The honest low drinkers are seeing treble and need to lie down after 1-2 large glasses of wine or the equivalent - I have a friend like this, but then she's also about 6 stone.

Fact is though, most people drink more than their weekly allowance in one or two evenings - and I won't listen to any single one of you that says you don't. I can happily get through a bottle but that's between 9-12 units on it's own depending on the alcohol %. The majority of people, certainly everyone I know and have met, haven't a clue how many units are in what. They don't know how to keep a tab on what they've drunk when they go out, etc. That's fair enough, but don't then pull the saint card over anyone else.

So if you have a night out with your mates and get trashed, that's OK, but if you have one too many on a date, then you're a drunk? Oh get a grip.

I will happily quaff a bottle (a decent one - can't stand bad wine) but I will also happily go weeks without having anything.

Each to their own people, stop being so superior about people who enjoy a drink - you all have plenty of your own faults that 'people like me' would consider highly distasteful.

Tara.

A brave post Tara!
But maybe not so brave if you really don't give a damn what people think of you...that has been your public persona, anyway.
Must admit though, I've found it hard to resist adding a comment to some of these posts.
I managed it though!

Evening Keith

God loves a trier Babe :-)

I haven't meant to bring God into all my conversations tonight, it's just the way it's worked out. Sorry :-)

Keith you are a fab person, thank you for keeping it light hearted for the rest of us. Can you change your name again please, I don't think "neutral2 suits you somewhat!

You are more charismatic than that.
