 | I thought the X Y chromosome thing was what determined the sex of someone - females carry the 23 xx and males the 23 XY or something and the sperm determines the sex of the child?
and occasionally there can be an extra chromosone making 47 which is what causes Downes Syndrome (long time ago since i did my nursing so a bit rusty)
though - Sperm that carry the Y chromosome (to make a boy) get to the egg very quickly, but they are less resistant.
Sperm that carry the X chromosome (to make a girl) are slower, but are much more resistant.
This may reflect in later life :P
