a brief summary of why I think people hide their identity, and to go some way to answer the original question

1.no digital camera
2.shy
3.sensitive job where recognition would not be good
4.don’t want partner to see them on a dating/friendship site
5.anonymity due to celebrity status (!)
6.very low self esteem – may think people will not like what
7.scary having a pic for the whole internet world to see.
8.prefer the sillohette look
9.feel more comfortable chatting online and hiding behind the computer
10.lazy and can’t be bothered to put up a pic
11.don’t know how to upload a pic despite instructions and not wanting to admit it....

any one else have any thoughts?
