Why are new threads...

taking so long...

to appear on the homepage Gordon et al??

I like to keep track of the new threads by looking at the headlines on the home page, but I find I'm missing quite a few new ones now because they're taking so long to appear, if they ever do. And I find it a pain having to trawl through all the conversations to see which ones have been posted most recently as I don't always have time to do that.

Anyone else noticing this or is it just me being dense again?

Answers on a postcard please...

Grace love the new pic :)

I've noticed this too, the thread thing, in fact I posted a reminder about the meet last week that never appeared on the home page at all!

I think someone needs to have a word with programmers :p

Pure thank you...the fiver's in the post :o)

Well I'm hoping the powers that be on DA read these things as well...otherwise I might have to send a stroppy email to Gordon (have never done that before so might just do it anyway lol).

*Clears throat*

I think you are all being dense!

Just go into "off topic" and "dating" click onto "latest conversation" and save that to your favourites. You only have to do it once! On my PC I don't even have to go into bookmarks or favourites to access the latest conversation, and by extension, thread.

I don't want to use the favourites option - why have the headlines on the home page in the first place if they're not prepared to keep that section up to date is the point am trying to make.

Want some benylin for that throat?

I don't mean the DA favourites option, I mean save to your own PC.

Then you just have to click on "latest" for both "off topic" and "latest".

I'll be OK when I've had my dinner, thank you.

Evening all!

I think every one of the latest threads on the home page are from the 'Newbie' section!

I have also noticed that the horoscopes seem to have been exactly the same for months now - either that or my life must be in some sort of 'Groundhog Day' loop!

I don't know.............things aint what they used to be!

And I agree Pure - men are soooo grumpy on an empty stomach - first thing in the morning especially!!!!

Men are just grumpy whether on an empty or full stomach.

Is DA not paying Russell Grant enough money then? He should've seen that coming, in the stars ;o)

I noticed that, too, sometime ago when my threads didn't appear on the front page or the forums' main page at all, while other contemporaries did. That might indicate that the procedure for selecting newly posted threads to appear on the main pages is still a manual one. The people responsible for selecting those threads work on some kind of a relative ranking, probably based on our membership level or points or a combination of those. That, or the selection criterian is purely subjective. So - if the person selecting newly posted threads doesn't like you, or likes you less than the other posters, chances are your threads will not get that real estate.

I could totally be off the mark on this, though. This is the impression I got when none of my threads made it on the homepage or the forums' dashboard, so to say.

I suggest that this selection process be automated.

I haven't been using them that much since the last Bank Holiday hence my delay in noticing. Either that or it's my blonde brain syndrome - just don't have the hair colour to match :o\
