In short
We checked four introduction services that say they serve Birmingham, on their own websites on 20 October 2026. None is based in the city. Two publish prices: £499 for six months with a Nottinghamshire matchmaker, and £1,500 for a year with a national firm. Ask where members live before you pay. DatingAgency.com is not an agency.
| Firms listed | 4, each checked on its own website |
|---|---|
| Based in Birmingham | None; one says it is based near Stratford-upon-Avon |
| Publishing a price | 2 of 4: from £499 for six months to £1,500 for a year |
| Checked on | 20 October 2026 |
| UK cancellation right | 14 days if you sign online, by phone or away from the firm's office |
Birmingham is the UK's second city, yet we couldn't find an introduction agency based in it. The services that will take Birmingham clients are regional or national firms with a West Midlands page, plus one small East Midlands matchmaker that names the city. That makes the first question for any of them simple: where do your members actually live?
Below are four services that say on their own websites that they serve Birmingham, what each publishes, and where each stays silent. Everything comes from each firm's own website as it read on 20 October 2026, and its own documents take precedence over our summary. No listing is paid for and none carries an affiliate link.
Who's working in Birmingham right now
Matchmakers Dating and its sister brands (regional, near Stratford-upon-Avon)
The most local of the four. Matchmakers Dating's West Midlands page says the region "is home to us too and where we are based, near to Stratford upon Avon", and invites clients to visit its office. Its terms give the address as 8 Arrow Court, Alcester, Warwickshire. It says it has served the West Midlands since 2005, focuses on professionals aged 30 to 49, and covers the whole of mainland Great Britain. Its membership page says it is part of the Dating Options group.
You may meet the same business under other names. On 20 October 2026, Attractive Partners and RSVP both had Birmingham pages and both gave the same Alcester address in their terms, which read almost word for word like Matchmakers Dating's. RSVP adds singles events and says its memberships are for life: you pay the joining fee once and a service fee only while you're active. Treat these brands as one choice, not three, and don't pay for more than one.
Ignite Dating (national, registered in Rutland)
Ignite Dating Group Ltd gives its registered office as Oakham, Rutland, and says it works with clients throughout the UK, naming Birmingham among its cities. Its West Midlands page mentions Birmingham, Solihull, Coventry, Wolverhampton and Dudley. Clients get a dedicated matchmaker, personality profiling using the MBTI and FIRO frameworks, professional dating photography and headhunting beyond its own database.
Place Matchmaking (East Midlands, names Birmingham)
A one-person service based in Nottinghamshire. Its founder says she can meet you in Nottingham, Derby or Mansfield, or by video, and lists Birmingham among the areas it serves alongside Nottinghamshire, Derbyshire, Leicestershire and Manchester. There are no public profiles, and introductions are made one at a time. If you're in Birmingham, ask how many of its members live within reach of you.
Sparked Connection (national)
A matchmaking service for professionals that describes a "UK-wide professional network". It combines personality-based matching with introductions and singles events; the events listed on 20 October 2026 were in London. It also runs a free "Singles Network": you can be held on file and introduced to paying members without paying yourself.
The trade body, the Association of British Introduction Agencies (ABIA), keeps a list of members covering the Midlands. On 20 October 2026 it showed 11, mostly national, London-based or faith and community services, with no Birmingham-based agency; Sparked Connection was the only one in this guide. ABIA membership means an agency has agreed to follow its code of practice. It isn't a licence.
Prices side by side, with the date we checked
| Firm | Published price | What the price covers | Checked |
|---|---|---|---|
| Place Matchmaking | Emerald: £499 for six months. Sapphire: £995 for twelve months | A face-to-face meeting, vetted matches, an agreed number of profiles and the founder's support. VAT isn't mentioned | 20 Oct 2026 |
| Sparked Connection | Gold: £1,500 for 12 months. Platinum: £2,800 for two people joining together. Bronze: free | Gold: a minimum of five introductions, with the membership extended free if they aren't reached. Platinum: two Gold memberships with priority matching | 20 Oct 2026 |
| Ignite Dating | Not published | It says fees depend on the service level and the scope of the search, and are discussed at a consultation | 20 Oct 2026 |
| Matchmakers Dating | Not published | Costs are discussed at a free consultation; £50 for each profile update you ask for unless your agreement includes updates | 20 Oct 2026 |
Sparked Connection's refund policy says the Gold minimum is something it will use "reasonable endeavours" to provide, subject to how responsive you are and who is available. Fees are payable in full in advance.
Matchmakers Dating doesn't publish its fee, but its terms list what it would keep if you cancelled in the 14-day cooling-off period after asking it to start: £500 for a home or office profiling consultation (or £250 by video or phone), £500 for registration including background checks and initial searches, £250 for drafting your profile, £250 if headhunting has started, and from £75 for coaching. That gives you a sense of the scale of the fee.
How each one vets the people you'll meet
- Matchmakers Dating. Its West Midlands page says it interviews every potential member, checks "their residency details and who they are living with", and insists on photographic ID and evidence of residency. Its terms add that it accepts the details members give "in good faith" and advise you to verify them yourself.
- Ignite Dating. Lists "ID-checked introductions" among what every client receives, and says each match is personally vetted and approved by both people before contact.
- Place Matchmaking. The founder meets each member and says matches are "personally vetted"; the pages we read don't say what that involves.
- Sparked Connection. Says every person it connects you with is vetted and that it personally reviews every referral to its free network. ID checks aren't mentioned on the pages we read.
An interview and an ID check confirm someone is who they say they are. They don't confirm that everything else they told the agency is true. Our guide to how agencies vet members explains what to ask.
What the fee actually buys you
- A number of introductions. Sparked Connection's Gold membership runs 12 months with a minimum of five. Matchmakers Dating's terms say a promised number of introductions is met either when you reach it or when it has sent you at least twice as many profiles, whether or not they led to a meeting.
- A period of time. Place Matchmaking sells six or twelve months. RSVP's memberships don't expire, though it charges a reactivation fee if your profile has been dormant for over a year.
- Refunds. Sparked Connection says fees are non-refundable once your one-to-one consultation has taken place, except where the law requires. Matchmakers Dating gives no refund after the cancellation period unless it has breached its terms or your rights, and says the fee is "not divisible pro rata". Place Matchmaking and Ignite Dating don't publish terms on the pages we read, so ask for them.
Your consumer rights sit underneath all of this. If you sign a contract online, by phone or away from the firm's office, you have 14 days after the day you sign to cancel. If you asked the firm to start work in those 14 days, it can charge for what it has done; Sparked Connection's policy says asking it to start means you lose the right to cancel once the service has begun. Sign at the firm's own premises and the cancellation right generally doesn't apply. Our guide to dating agency contracts and refunds sets out the rest.
What to ask at your first consultation
Take these to any Birmingham service, and ask for the answers in writing:
- What is the full fee, including VAT, and when is each part due?
- How many introductions will I get, and does a profile I decline count as one?
- How many current members fit what I'm looking for, and how many live in the West Midlands?
- Do you check ID? Anything else, such as relationship status?
- Do you trade under any other names?
- If I cancel within 14 days, what exactly would you deduct?
- What happens if you run out of suitable people before my membership ends?
Question 3 matters most here, because none of these firms is based in the city and two of them work nationally. Our full list of questions, and what happens at the first interview, will help you prepare.
When an agency isn't the answer
An agency makes most sense if you're short of time, want people screened before you meet them, and can afford to lose the fee if it doesn't work out. It makes less sense on a tight budget, or if you'd rather see who's out there yourself.
Be cautious with anyone who presses you to sign at the first meeting or won't let you take the contract home. The warning signs guide lists the others. If you're over 50, check age ranges early: Matchmakers Dating says it focuses on people aged 30 to 49, and our guide to dating agencies for over-50s covers the rest.
If something goes wrong
Start with the firm, in writing, then escalate.
| Problem | Where to go |
|---|---|
| The firm won't cancel or refund | Write to it citing your contract and your rights; then Citizens Advice for free advice |
| You paid by credit card and the service wasn't provided | Your card provider: a section 75 claim may apply on prices over £100 |
| An introduction asks you for money | Don't pay; tell the firm, then Report Fraud on 0300 123 2040 |
| You feel unsafe | Leave, and call the police: 999 in an emergency, 101 otherwise |
Our own online service, listed separately
DatingAgency.com is not one of the services above. We run an online dating service where you do the searching yourself: nobody interviews members or picks matches. Joining, making a profile and browsing are free; reading and replying to messages needs a paid membership that renews until you cancel. Profiles are shared with partner sites in the same network, and what members write about themselves isn't checked. How our service works and our prices give the details, and the same safety advice applies.

Questions people ask
How much is a dating agency in Birmingham?
Two of the four services we checked publish a price. Place Matchmaking charges £499 for six months or £995 for twelve, and Sparked Connection £1,500 for a 12-month Gold membership, checked on 20 October 2026. Ignite Dating and Matchmakers Dating quote fees at a consultation, so ask for the full price and contract in writing.
Is there a dating agency based in Birmingham?
We didn't find one. Matchmakers Dating says it is based near Stratford-upon-Avon and invites West Midlands clients to visit its office. Ignite Dating is registered in Rutland, Place Matchmaking is in Nottinghamshire and Sparked Connection works UK-wide.
Do Birmingham agencies check ID?
Two say so plainly. Matchmakers Dating says every new member must provide photographic ID and evidence of residency, and Ignite Dating describes ID-checked introductions. Place Matchmaking and Sparked Connection say matches are vetted but, on the pages we read, don't say ID is checked.
Which Birmingham dating agency is best?
We don't rank agencies: nobody can test them fairly without being a client of each. Compare them on members in your age range and area, how they check people, what counts as an introduction, the full fee and the refund terms, and get each answer in writing.
Is DatingAgency.com one of these agencies?
No. We are not an agency and nobody here picks matches. Our online dating service is listed separately below, labelled as ours.
