What dating agencies and matchmakers cost

Fees run from under a thousand pounds to five figures. Here is what UK agencies publish, what the money buys and how to compare packages fairly.

In short

Published UK dating agency fees we checked in October 2026 ran from £499 for six months with a small Midlands matchmaker to memberships from £15,000, usually for six to twelve months. Many firms publish no price at all. Most of the fee is paid before introductions start. DatingAgency.com is not an agency; it compares published prices and dates every one.

Agencies sell time and attention, so prices vary with how much of both you get. The figures below come only from fee pages the agencies publish themselves, each with the date we checked it. Where a firm doesn't publish a price we say so, rather than repeat a figure from a review or directory that we can't confirm on the firm's own site.

This guide is UK only for now. We haven't yet checked Australian agencies' own fee pages, so there are no Australian prices here; our guide to dating agencies in Australia covers how the system works there.

Several well-known agencies publish no fee at all. On the dates we checked, that included Drawing Down the Moon and Bond The Agency in London, Select Personal Introductions and INTRO NW in the North West, and Matchmakers Dating, which says costs are discussed at a free consultation. We haven't yet been able to check a Midlands agency's own fee page, so the table has a gap there.

One more thing we noticed: an agency's prices aren't always consistent. One firm's ABIA directory listing showed a much lower starting fee than its own website on the same day, and another firm's home page says fees "vary and increase" with your search while its process page gives a starting figure. Always get the price you are agreeing to in writing, in the contract or an email, before you pay.

Roughly what each level of service costs

Reading the table as a whole, published UK fees fall into five rough bands:

  • Under £1,000. A small independent matchmaker in Nottinghamshire publishes £499 for six months and £995 for a year, and a southern agency sells a two-match taster for £895.
  • Around £1,000 for six months. Hybrid services, where the agency sends you a few matches a month from its own members and you decide whom to meet. Three services in our sample charged this, in London, the South and the North, though two of them belong to the same group.
  • About £1,500 to £3,000. More matches or a fixed number agreed upfront, some coaching, and a hold so you can pause if a relationship starts.
  • About £4,500 to £6,000. London matchmaking with photography, coaching, headhunting or a year of unlimited introductions.
  • £10,000 and up. Premium matchmakers quoting on the scope of the search, often across the UK or abroad. Neither firm at this level that we checked publishes a full list of what's included.

The bands overlap and they aren't a rule. They are simply what the published fees showed in October 2026.

What the fee usually buys

Reading the published packages side by side, a membership fee typically covers:

  • A consultation, in person or by video, where the agency learns what you want;
  • A written profile, sometimes with professional photographs on dearer tiers;
  • A number of introductions, either a fixed count or a rate per month over a term;
  • Some coaching or feedback, from a single session to ongoing calls;
  • A hold, letting you pause membership if a relationship starts, often for three to six months;
  • "Passive" membership after the term, meaning you stay on the books and may be suggested to other members.

Headhunting, where the agency approaches people who are not yet clients, tends to appear only in the dearer tiers. If you're paying for it, ask whether the people approached have agreed to be introduced.

Work out the cost per introduction

Headline prices are hard to compare because packages differ in length and in what counts as an introduction. Divide the price by the number of introductions you are actually promised in writing:

Package Price Introductions on the page Cost per introduction
Northern hybrid, 6 months £1,000 At least 15 (not promised) about £67
Two-match taster £895 2 about £448
Six-match bespoke £1,995 6 about £333
London six-match package £4,450 6 about £742

Then ask what an "introduction" means. Is it a profile sent to you, or a date that both of you have agreed to? If you turn a profile down, does it count? One agency's terms say a hybrid membership is fulfilled once the contracted introductions are proposed, "whether or not meetings take place". The answers can halve or double the real cost.

How the money is taken

Most agencies take most of the fee before introductions begin. A few variations are worth knowing:

  • Joining fee plus monthly fee. The Executive Club of St James's charges a joining fee and then a monthly fee for as long as you're a member. At its published rates, a year of Gold costs £2,479 and a year of VIP £7,595.
  • Paid consultations. Latham International lists a £247 consultation. Cupid in the City charges £100 for its in-person meeting and deducts it from the membership if you go ahead. Select Personal Introductions' memberships page says its first 30-minute session is free.
  • Instalments. Club Introductions' terms say clients on instalment plans must keep paying during a hold.
  • Cooling-off deductions. If you sign online, by phone or away from the agency's office, you have 14 days to cancel, but an agency can charge for work you asked it to start. Select Personal Introductions' terms list £200 for the consultation, £195 for profile processing, £100 for data entry and searches, and £75 to £250 for other services. Matchmakers Dating's terms, checked on 17 October 2026, gave examples of £500 for a profiling consultation and £500 for registration.

In the UK there is no cap on how much an agency can take upfront, so staged payments are something to negotiate. Two Australian states do set one. In Victoria, an introduction agent generally can't take more than 30% of the agreed price before providing the service, unless the price is $1,000 or less and your recent spending with that agent is under set limits. In Queensland the same 30% limit applies where the agreement is $500 or more, or where you have spent above set amounts with that agent recently. Our guide to contracts and refunds covers cooling-off periods and what happens if you cancel.

Costs that sit outside the fee

Budget for the dates themselves, travel if introductions are spread across a region, photographs if they are an extra, and renewal. Several packages offer renewal "at a reduced rate", so ask for that rate in writing now rather than when the term ends. If you pay by credit card and the price is over £100, you may have extra protection if the service isn't provided.

Comparing an agency with a dating site

A dating site costs a fraction of an agency fee because you do the searching. Our own online service is one example: joining, making a profile and browsing are free, and reading and replying to messages needs a paid membership.

UK members pay in pounds and US members in dollars. Prices as set for the members area on 20 October 2026; the members area always shows the exact price before you pay. Memberships and trials renew automatically until you cancel in Settings > Billing. Your card statement shows the billing name displayed at checkout.

Whether the difference is worth it depends on how much your time is worth and how much you value someone else's first sift. Is a matchmaker worth it? walks through that decision, online dating costs explains what dating sites charge, and the questions to ask help you get every cost on the table.

Questions people ask

How much does a dating agency cost in the UK?

The published fees we checked in October 2026 started at £499 for six months with a small Nottinghamshire matchmaker, and £895 for a two-introduction taster in the South. Hybrid memberships of six months were commonly £1,000, London matchmaking packages ran from £4,450 to £5,975 to join, and premium matchmakers started at £10,000 to £15,000. Many agencies publish no price at all.

Why are London matchmakers so much dearer?

In our sample, the dearest packages came from London firms offering headhunting, coaching, photography or unlimited introductions over a year. But London also has £1,000 hybrid memberships, so the service level matters more than the postcode.

Do I have to pay everything upfront?

Usually most of it. One London club charges a joining fee and then a monthly fee for as long as you stay a member, and some agencies take instalments. UK law sets no cap on upfront payments, so staged payment is something to negotiate.

Is VAT included in dating agency fees?

Sometimes, and it isn't always stated. Little Black Book's terms say its fee includes VAT, and Select Personal Introductions' terms refer to payment inclusive of VAT. Most fee pages we read didn't say, so ask for the full price, including VAT, in writing.

Does this guide cover Australia?

Only briefly. We haven't yet checked Australian agencies' own fee pages, so the prices here are UK only. Victoria and Queensland limit how much an introduction agent can take upfront, which we summarise below.
