Winchester has no agency of its own that we could find. The companies that serve it cover Hampshire as part of a wider southern patch, or the whole country, so the first question to ask any of them is how many of their members live within reach of you. A second question matters here more than most: two of the three companies below trade under more than one name.

Everything comes from each company's own website as it read on 20 October 2026, and its own documents take precedence over our summary. No listing is paid for and none carries an affiliate link.

Who's working in Winchester right now

Your Matchmaker and South Downs Introductions (regional, one company)

Both brands belong to Your Matchmaker Ltd, so treat them as one company with two price lists rather than two independent choices.

  • South Downs Introductions says it is "located in the heart of Sussex" and reaches members in Hampshire, naming Petersfield, Portsmouth, Hamble, Southampton, Winchester, Fareham and Alton, as well as Sussex and Surrey. Its home page footer still read "2014-2019" on 20 October 2026, so confirm its current prices before you rely on them.
  • Your Matchmaker describes an offline matchmaking service for clients "across the South of the UK" and lists Hampshire alongside Bath, Berkshire, Bristol, Gloucestershire, Somerset, Surrey, Sussex and South West London.

Ignite Dating (national, registered in Rutland)

Ignite Dating Group Ltd gives its registered office as Oakham, Rutland, and says it works with clients across the UK. It has a Hampshire page naming Winchester, Basingstoke, Fleet, Farnham, Southampton and Portsmouth, and says its matchmakers can headhunt across the UK if a local search is too narrow. Clients get a dedicated matchmaker, personality profiling using the MBTI and FIRO frameworks, professional dating photography and headhunting beyond its own database.

The County Register and the Dating Options group (national, based in Warwickshire)

The County Register has a Winchester page saying it has worked with people in Hampshire for more than 40 years, having started in 1983 as a matchmaking service for farmers and country people. It says its clients range from their 30s to their 80s, and that it is "part of the Dating Options group".

The same group runs other brands you may come across. Matchmakers Dating, which also says it is part of the Dating Options group, lists Hampshire on its South East page, and Attractive Partners has a Hampshire page. Both give the same address, 8 Arrow Court, Alcester, Warwickshire, in terms that read almost word for word alike. Matchmakers Dating's South East page says it caters for people aged 25 to 45, while its other regional pages say 30 to 49, so ask which applies. Treat these brands as one choice, and don't pay for more than one.

The trade body, the Association of British Introduction Agencies (ABIA), has no Hampshire list; its London and the South East list showed 22 members on 20 October 2026, none of them in this guide. ABIA membership means an agency has agreed to follow its code of practice. It isn't a licence. If you can travel to London, the London guide compares nine more firms.

The County Register and Dating Options brands Not published The County Register says it has options "to suit most budgets"; Matchmakers Dating charges £50 for each profile update you ask for unless your agreement includes updates 20 Oct 2026

Neither Your Matchmaker nor South Downs Introductions mentions VAT or refunds on its fee page, so ask for both in writing. Matchmakers Dating's terms list what it would keep if you cancelled in the 14-day cooling-off period after asking it to start: £500 for a home or office profiling consultation (or £250 by video or phone), £500 for registration including background checks, £250 for drafting your profile, £250 if headhunting has started, and from £75 for coaching.

How each one vets the people you'll meet

  • South Downs Introductions. "All our members are met in person and have identity and background checks carried out."
  • Your Matchmaker. Each hybrid match is identity-checked and interviewed by video call. The Bespoke and Elite descriptions don't repeat this, so ask.
  • Ignite Dating. Lists "ID-checked introductions" among what every client receives, and says each match is vetted and approved by both people before contact.
  • The County Register. Says it meets every prospective client face to face and conducts "thorough ID checks". Matchmakers Dating's terms, for the same group, add that it accepts members' details "in good faith" and advise you to verify them yourself.

An interview and an ID check confirm someone is who they say they are. They don't confirm that everything else they told the agency is true. Our guide to how agencies vet members explains what to ask.

What the fee actually buys you

  • A number of matches. South Downs sells two, four or six matches, or unlimited for a year. Your Matchmaker's hybrid tier promises two or three a month. Matchmakers Dating's terms say a promised number of introductions is met either when you reach it or when it has sent you at least twice as many profiles, whether or not they led to a meeting.
  • A period of time. Your Matchmaker's hybrid and bespoke tiers run six months; Elite typically six to 12. South Downs agrees the length with you upfront.
  • Pausing. Your Matchmaker's Bespoke tier includes a four-month relationship hold and Elite a six-month hold.
  • Refunds. Matchmakers Dating gives no refund after the cancellation period unless it has breached its terms or your rights, and says the fee is "not divisible pro rata". The other companies don't publish refund terms on the pages we read.

Your consumer rights sit underneath all of this. If you sign a contract online, by phone or away from the firm's office, you have 14 days after the day you sign to cancel. If you asked the firm to start work in those 14 days, it can charge for what it has done. Sign at the firm's own premises and that cancellation right generally doesn't apply. Our guide to dating agency contracts and refunds sets out the rest.

What to ask at your first consultation

Take these to any company covering Winchester, and ask for the answers in writing:

  1. What is the full fee, including VAT, and when is each part due?
  2. What counts as a "match", and does one I decline count?
  3. How many current members fit what I'm looking for, and how many live in Hampshire?
  4. Do you check ID? Anything else, such as relationship status?
  5. Do you trade under any other names?
  6. If I cancel within 14 days, what exactly would you deduct?
  7. What happens if you run out of suitable people before my membership ends?

Our full list of questions, and what happens at the first interview, will help you prepare.

When an agency isn't the answer

An agency makes most sense if you're short of time, want people screened before you meet them, and can afford to lose the fee if it doesn't work out. It makes less sense on a tight budget, or if you'd rather see who's out there yourself. Be cautious with anyone who presses you to sign at the first meeting; the warning signs guide lists the others, and our guide to dating agencies for over-50s covers later-life dating.

If something goes wrong

Start with the firm, in writing, then escalate.

Problem Where to go
The firm won't cancel or refund Write to it citing your contract and your rights; then Citizens Advice for free advice
You paid by credit card and the service wasn't provided Your card provider: a section 75 claim may apply on prices over £100
An introduction asks you for money Don't pay; tell the firm, then Report Fraud on 0300 123 2040
You feel unsafe Leave, and call the police: 999 in an emergency, 101 otherwise

Our own online service, listed separately

DatingAgency.com is not one of the companies above. We run an online dating service where you do the searching yourself: nobody interviews members or picks matches. Joining, making a profile and browsing are free; reading and replying to messages needs a paid membership that renews until you cancel. Profiles are shared with partner sites in the same network, and what members write about themselves isn't checked. How our service works and our prices give the details, and the same safety advice applies.

Questions people ask

How much is a dating agency in Winchester?

Only one company we checked publishes prices. Its South Downs Introductions brand starts at £895 for two matches, and its Your Matchmaker brand runs from £1,000 for six months of hybrid matching to Elite from £5,000, checked on 20 October 2026. Ignite Dating and the Dating Options group quote fees at a consultation.

Is there a dating agency based in Winchester?

We didn't find one. South Downs Introductions says it is located in Sussex and names Winchester among the Hampshire towns it reaches. Ignite Dating and The County Register have Winchester or Hampshire pages but give addresses in Rutland and Warwickshire.

Do Hampshire agencies check ID?

South Downs Introductions says all members are met in person and have identity and background checks, Your Matchmaker says each hybrid match is identity-checked, Ignite Dating describes ID-checked introductions, and The County Register says it conducts thorough ID checks. Ask any of them what the check involves.

Which Winchester dating agency is best?

We don't rank agencies: nobody can test them fairly without being a client of each. Compare them on members in your age range and area, how they check people, what counts as an introduction, the full fee and the refund terms, and get each answer in writing.

Is DatingAgency.com one of these agencies?

No. We are not an agency and nobody here picks matches. Our online dating service is listed separately below, labelled as ours.
